Members of the Colton Woman’s Club recently presented HOBY (Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership) scholarship awards to two Colton High School students, Mia Zamora and Aiden Smith.
Every year, the club gives two students the opportunity to attend one of the national three-day HOBYconferences, designed to sharpen their leadership skills. Hundreds of high school sophomores across the United States participate in the program.
Students applying for the awards from the Colton Woman’s Club write essays about why they want to attend the HOBY conference, then the club chooses finalists to interview with a panel of club members.
This year’s winners attended the Colton Woman’s Club Jan. 11 meeting with their families. At the meeting, Linda Brooks, president, and Laurie Edwards, HOBY awards committee representative, presented the students certificates and scholarships for the cost of this summer’s HOBY conference.
The Colton Woman’s Club meets at 495 N. Seventh St., Colton. For information, go to facebook.com/coltonwomansclub.
