Riverside County sheriff’s divers recovered the body of a child who drowned in Lake Elsinore on Sunday morning, June 26, authorities said.
Around 10:35 a.m., the Sheriff’s Department was called about a drowning at Launch Pointe Beach and responding deputies found the reporting party shortly after, sheriff’s officials said. It was learned that several children were playing near the lake’s docks when two began having trouble swimming, authorities said.
One of the children was brought to the shore by a bystander, but the other went under the water, the Sheriff’s Department said. The child never re-surfaced and several bystanders searched the water, officials said.
After hours of searching the area where the child was last seen, the Sheriff’s Department’s dive team found the child’s body around 2:37 p.m., the Sheriff’s Department said. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office took possession of the victim and their identity was being withheld, authorities said.
