Big Bear bald eagle lays first egg of 2023 – San Bernardino Sun

The count down is on.

Jackie, the bald eagle in the San Bernardino Mountains, who along with her partner Shadow, has become an internet star thanks to the Big Bear Bald Eagle Nest Cam, laid an egg on Wednesday, Jan. 11.

The egg-laying — the first of 2023 — was caught on camera Wednesday afternoon.

Jackie and Shadow successfully raised chicks in the nest in 2022 and 2019, and in 2018 Jackie and a different partner had successfully raised a chick in the nest.

The eggs usually hatch after 38 to 39 days, according to the Friends of the Big Bear Valley group, which runs the popular webcam showing the nesting pair in the San Bernardino Mountains.
