A man described by police as a “person of interest” in a slaying Tuesday in Hemet was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 26, authorities said.
Koron LeKeith Lowe, 24, caused a disturbance and argued with the residents of a home in the 3000 block of Greengable Lane, a Hemet Police news release said. Shots were then fired and a 30-year-old woman was fatally struck.
The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the woman on Wednesday as Asasha Lache Hall of Hemet.
After Lowe was identified as the suspect soon after the shooting, police tracked him to the Beaumont and Banning Pass area by Wednesday morning, police said. Investigators located Lowe shortly after 1 p.m. in Cabazon and police attempted to negotiate with him, but he refused to surrender, authorities said.
While attempting to detain Lowe, police used a K-9 to get him out his car and K-9 “Bosco” sustained injuries as Lowe fought the dog and struck it with a sharp piece of wood, police said.
Lowe ultimately was arrested outside the Morongo Casino in Cabazon on Wednesday afternoon.
The suspect was also injured during the arrest and was hospitalized. After receiving medical treatment, police planned to book Lowe into the Riverside County Jail on suspicion of murder, attempted murder, resisting arrest with violence and fighting a police dog, the Police Department said.
“Bosco” was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic and is expected to be back on the job after the weekend, authorities said.
