9/11 events set in Inland Empire – San Bernardino Sun


Ceremonies across the Inland Empire will mark the 21st anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Speeches, flag ceremonies and the ringing of bells will remember those who died Sept. 11, 2001.

Here are highlights of upcoming commemorations.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY

EASTVALE

The city will stage a 9/11 memorial ceremony to honor victims of the attacks.

The 6:45 a.m. event is Sunday, Sept. 11, at Fire Station 27, 7067 Hamner Ave. It will include a moment of silence, a presentation of flags, the national anthem and speeches.

JURUPA VALLEY

VFW Post 10267 plans its annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony for Sunday, Sept. 11.

The event is at 5:30 a.m. at 8607 Mission Boulevard. It will include a raising of the flag, the playing of taps, speeches and the ringing of a bell to mark the time the first plane crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City.

Breakfast will be served afterward.

MENIFEE

Mt. San Jacinto College will host a 9/11 commemoration ceremony with a presentation from retired New York City Fire Department Battalion Commander Jack Oehm on Thursday, Sept. 8.

The 8:30 a.m. event will feature artifacts from 9/11 and interactive activities. The event will be at the Menifee Valley Campus, 28237 La Piedra Road.

NORCO

The city will mark 9/11 with a ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at Fire Station 47.

The station is at 3902 Hillside Ave. Additional parking is available across the street at Grace Fellowship Church.

TEMECULA

The city’s annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony is set for 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Temecula Duck Pond & Veterans Memorial.

Mayor Matt Rahn and other city officials are set to attend. The public is invited to to leave a message in a keepsake journal. The park is at the intersection of Rancho California and Ynez roads.

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY

CHINO HILLS

The Chino Valley Fire District will host a remembrance event Sunday, Sept. 11, at 9:30 a.m. at Fire Station 66.

The Chino Valley Fire District Honor Guard will present the colors. A wreath will be placed in front of the World Trade Center replica at Fire Station 66.

The station is at 13707 Peyton Drive.
