26,000 avocados donated to help those in need in the Inland Empire – San Bernardino Sun

Ralphs and Food 4 Less are working with Avocados from Peru this month as part of Hunger Action Month.

September is Hunger Action Month and as part of that the companies are teaming up to make a difference for those in need in Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

Avocados — 26,000 of them — are being donated in the Inland Empire.

On Monday, Sept. 26, 13,000 fresh avocados were delivered to Community Action Partnerships of San Bernardino County and 13,000 more were delivered to Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino in Riverside.

The avocados will be given to families in San Bernardino County, according to a news release.

“Access to safe and nutritious meals occasionally means some very special fruits and vegetables like what we have in front of us here,” Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-San Bernardino, said Monday as the donations were underway.

“Fighting hunger” takes all of us, said Sunny Reelhorn Parr, director of corporate affairs for Ralphs and Food 4 Less, in the news release. The grocery chain emphasizes zero hunger and zero waste and acknowledges the unique role the grocer plays across the food system, according to the release.
