Inland Empire students are among more than 16,000 semifinalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program.
The high school seniors’ names were announced Wednesday, Sept. 14, by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. It is the 68th annual scholarship competition.
Semifinalists will continue competing for approximately 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered in spring, a news release states.
About 95% of semifinalists are expected to become finalists, and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship and earn the Merit Scholar title, the release states. Those who become finalists will be notified in February.
National Merit Scholarship winners for 2023 will be announced in four waves between April and July.
