2 incumbents, 1 challenger lead San Bernardino council races in early election results – San Bernardino Sun

San Bernardino council members Theodore Sanchez and Fred Shorett lead their respective 1st and 4th ward races, early election results posted Tuesday, June 7, by the county Registrar of Voters show.

Terry Elliott, meanwhile, holds a slim lead over Councilwoman Sandra Ibarra in the 2nd Ward race.

Sanchez and challenger Gil Botello met again this year after vying for the same 1st Ward post in 2018.

Should Botello unseat Sanchez this time around, he would need to step down from his elected position on the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District with two years remaining in his term.

In the 2nd Ward, Ibarra’s maiden reelection campaign drew a single opponent in Elliott, a local pastor who has both criminal prosecutions and civil lawsuits in his past.

Elliott is a public safety commissioner in San Bernardino.

Shorett, the longest-tenured member of the City Council, could return to his 4th Ward seat with a win in the primary, extending his time as an elected official to 27 years.
