Two Hesperia men suspected of arson and causing the Highway fire near Hesperia over the weekend were arrested, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said Monday, Aug. 1.
Both Joal Colyer, 36 and Trevor Colyer, 24, were arrested by the Sheriff’s Department around 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 29, at 14777 Highway 173, according to San Bernardino County inmate logs.
Both were arrested on suspicion of three counts of arson, jail logs indicated. Joal Colyer was also arrested on suspicion of injury to a spouse or cohabitant and disobeying a court order, records showed.
Both were being held on $250,000 bail, inmate logs showed.
The fire burned 28 acres and destroyed or damaged three structures on Friday near Highways 173 and 138 after starting around 5 p.m. The fire was fully contained by Monday.
It was believed to have been caused by arson, said Mara Rodriguez, spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Department. Officials at Cal Fire San Bernardino, which fought the fire, could not be immediately reached for comment Monday.
It wasn’t immediately clear what the motive in the suspected arson was or the manner in which it took place.
