100-acre brush fire prompts evacuation of Jurupa Valley museum – San Bernardino Sun

A brush fire broke out in Jurupa Valley on Friday, May 6, prompting the evacuation of school children from the Jurupa Mountains Discovery Center.

The fire was reported at Granite Hill Drive and Pyrite Avenue around 12:50 p.m., according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department. By 1:20 p.m., it had reached 100 acres, with the potential for 500 to 1,000 acres, according to Cal Fire.

The flames were burning eastward at a moderate rate of spread in light brush. Authorities issued evacuation warnings for neighborhoods east of the museum.

Firefighters from the city of Riverside were also on the scene.
